Showcasing the great people behind great science in order to promote diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
As part of an event hosted by Agriculture Victoria Research’s Women in STEM at each AVR site to share resources developed thus far and to provide an opportunity to network with colleagues across the department.
Agriculture Victoria Research’s Women in STEM initiative, known as ‘AVR WSTEM’ is a priority inclusion and diversity initiative sponsored by the AVR Leadership team. The initiative is part of AVR’s commitment to promoting diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by seeking to increase participation from under-represented groups, to contribute to an organisation, a community and a society where studying and working in STEM at all levels is open to all, enhancing the path to secure equality of opportunities.
The showcase is not about the research but about the people who do it. The goal is to inspire prospective scientists, normalise the numerous pathways through which someone can progress into a science role and debunk myths that might prevent people from pursuing a research role.
