Maybe you've written a blog in 5 minutes, but what about a secure, encrypted communications application in 3 hours? This workshop will get you started with a simple Laravel / jQuery application, and iteratively build it up to become an end-to-end encrypted chat platform. You'll learn how to get started quickly, add encryption layers to the system, design database structures that won't leak metadata, and even provide mechanisms for plausible deniability. About Ben Ben Dechrai is a Melbourne-based technologist and international presenter on software security. His motivational tech talks and workshops are designed to encourage play, experimentation, and continued self-learning. Free Event This event is free to attend, but you *must* register a ticket to be eligible. There are strictly limited spaces. Prerequisites You will benefit from having a moderate understanding of a current PHP framework, MySQL/MariaDB, and be comfortable understanding JavaScript. The workshop is structured to guide each participant through a number of defined stages from beginning to end. This allows each participant to work at a different pace, and catch up to a working version for the next stage. You'll be using VirtualBox 5.1.34 and Vagrant 1.9.1 as a basis for sandboxed development, and will be expected to have these versions running and working already. Further instructions will be sent by email to registered participants prior to the event.
